The integration of remote sensing with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in research provides a powerful framework for analyzing spatial data and understanding complex environmental and urban phenomena. Remote sensing supplies large-scale, up-to-date imagery and measurements of the Earth’s surface, while GIS offers tools to store, manage, and analyze this data in relation to geographic coordinates. When combined, they enable researchers to overlay satellite images with maps, perform spatial modeling, and detect changes over time with high precision. This integration is widely applied in monitoring deforestation, assessing urban expansion, managing natural resources, and planning sustainable cities. By linking remote sensing’s observational capabilities with GIS’s analytical strength, scientists and planners can generate actionable insights, improve decision-making, and address pressing global challenges such as climate change, disaster management, and urban resilience.
