The foundation of remote sensing systems lies in the use of electromagnetic waves to gather information about objects or areas from a distance, without direct physical contact. These systems rely on sensors mounted on satellites, aircraft, or drones to detect and measure radiation reflected or emitted by the Earth’s surface and atmosphere. By analyzing this data, remote sensing provides insights into land use, vegetation health, water resources, climate patterns, and even disaster monitoring. The process involves key components such as energy sources (like the Sun or artificial emitters), interaction of energy with the target, and detection by sensors, followed by data processing and interpretation. Remote sensing systems form the backbone of modern environmental monitoring, resource management, and geospatial technologies, offering a powerful means to observe and understand our planet on both local and global scales.
