Alternating current (AC) refers to the flow of electric charge that periodically reverses direction, typically following a sinusoidal waveform, which makes it highly efficient for transmitting electrical energy over long distances. The behavior of AC in circuits depends on components such as resistors, capacitors, and inductors, which influence voltage, current, and phase relationships. Power in AC circuits is expressed in terms of real power (usable energy), reactive power (stored and released energy), and apparent power, all of which determine overall efficiency. Transformers play a crucial role in AC systems by using electromagnetic induction to step voltage levels up or down, enabling safe and efficient distribution of electricity from power plants to homes and industries.
