Colonisation, Slavery, and Women’s Resistance explores the experiences of women during periods of colonial domination and slavery, highlighting how systems of exploitation, oppression, and displacement affected their social, economic, and personal lives. It examines the roles women played not only as victims of these systems but also as active agents of resistance through actions such as cultural preservation, rebellion, leadership in liberation struggles, and everyday acts of defiance against injustice. The topic emphasizes the resilience, strength, and contributions of women in challenging colonial and slave-based structures, as well as their impact on historical and contemporary struggles for freedom and equality. Course objectives include enabling learners to understand the effects of colonisation and slavery on women, analyze forms of women’s resistance and resilience, recognize key contributions of women in liberation movements, and develop critical perspectives on gender, power, and social justice in historical contexts.
