Attack Techniques and Exploits
Attack techniques and exploits in cyberspace refer to the methods and tools used by cybercriminals to compromise systems, networks, and applications. These techniques often take advantage of vulnerabilities—weaknesses in software, hardware, or user behavior—to gain unauthorized access or cause damage. Common examples include SQL injection, where malicious code is inserted into database queries to extract or manipulate data, and cross-site scripting (XSS), which injects harmful scripts into web applications to hijack user sessions. Buffer overflow attacks exploit memory handling errors to execute arbitrary code, while man-in-the-middle (MITM) attacks intercept communications between two parties to steal information or alter data. Exploits can also involve zero-day vulnerabilities, which are flaws unknown to developers but actively targeted by attackers before patches are released. These techniques highlight the dynamic and evolving nature of cyber threats, emphasizing the need for continuous monitoring, timely updates, and strong defensive measures to protect digital assets.
