Categories of Security Threats in Cyberspace
Security threats in cyberspace can be grouped into several major categories, each posing unique risks to individuals, organizations, and governments. One common category is malware attacks, which include viruses, worms, ransomware, and spyware designed to disrupt systems or steal sensitive data. Another is phishing and social engineering, where attackers manipulate users into revealing confidential information through deceptive emails, websites, or messages. Denial-of-Service (DoS) and Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks aim to overwhelm networks or servers, making them unavailable to legitimate users. Unauthorized access and hacking involve breaking into systems to steal, alter, or destroy information. Additionally, insider threats arise when employees or trusted individuals misuse their access for malicious purposes. Finally, cyber espionage and cyberterrorism represent large-scale threats targeting national security, critical infrastructure, or political stability. Together, these categories highlight the diverse and evolving nature of cyber risks, underscoring the importance of strong cybersecurity measures to safeguard cyberspace.
