The agents and processes of landform formation refer to the natural forces and mechanisms that shape the Earth’s surface, creating diverse landscapes over time. Key agents include running water, glaciers, wind, waves, and tectonic activity, each operating through processes such as erosion, weathering, transportation, and deposition. These processes work together to carve valleys, build deltas, sculpt dunes, and uplift mountains, while also interacting with climatic conditions and human activities. Understanding these agents and processes provides insight into both the gradual and sudden transformations of landscapes, helping geomorphologists explain past landform evolution and anticipate future changes in Earth’s dynamic surface.
