The foundation of geomorphology lies in the study of the origin, evolution, and configuration of landforms, focusing on the processes that shape the Earth’s surface over time. It integrates principles from geology, geography, climatology, hydrology, and biology to explain how forces such as weathering, erosion, tectonic activity, and deposition interact to create diverse landscapes. Geomorphology emphasizes both endogenic processes (like volcanism and plate tectonics that build landforms) and exogenic processes (like wind, water, and ice that wear them down), while also considering the role of human activity in modifying natural terrains. By establishing these foundations, geomorphology provides critical insights into environmental management, hazard assessment, and sustainable land use planning.
