Methods, Advantages, and Limitations of Conflict Models examines the various techniques used in constructing and analyzing models of conflict, such as game theory, decision-making analysis, mathematical simulations, and qualitative frameworks, to better understand the behavior of conflicting parties and predict possible outcomes. It highlights the advantages of conflict models, including their ability to simplify complex situations, identify patterns, support strategic decision-making, and enhance conflict resolution planning, while also addressing their limitations, such as oversimplification, reliance on assumptions, and challenges in capturing human emotions and unpredictable behaviors. The topic emphasizes the need for critical evaluation and careful application of these models in real-world situations. Course objectives include enabling learners to understand different methods used in conflict modeling, recognize the strengths and weaknesses of these approaches, evaluate their applicability in various contexts, and develop the ability to use conflict models effectively in analyzing and resolving disputes.
This lecture is part of PCR 402 Conflict Modeling and Peace Building in the Peace and Conflict Studies department. The course has 28 recorded lectures across 14 series, all free to watch.
