This course provides a comprehensive guide to writing effective and scholarly literature reviews in linguistics. Participants will learn how to identify, evaluate, synthesize, and critically analyze existing research related to linguistic topics and theories. The course explores strategies for locating relevant academic sources, organizing literature thematically and theoretically, identifying research gaps, and developing coherent arguments that establish the foundation for new research.
Students will gain practical skills in reviewing linguistic studies across areas such as phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, sociolinguistics, and applied linguistics. Emphasis is placed on critical engagement with scholarly works, proper citation practices, and the integration of literature into research proposals, theses, dissertations, and journal articles.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to produce well-structured literature reviews that demonstrate analytical depth, scholarly rigor, and a clear understanding of current debates and developments within the field of linguistics.
