This course focuses on the morphological structures of selected African languages, with emphasis on their word formation processes, grammatical systems, and typological features. Students will examine how different African languages encode meaning through prefixes, suffixes, infixes, tone, reduplication, and other morphological strategies. The course highlights both similarities and differences across languages such as Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, Swahili, and others, where applicable, to illustrate the richness and diversity of African linguistic systems. Learners will engage in practical morphological analysis, including word segmentation, morpheme identification, and structural comparison. By the end of the course, students will develop a deeper understanding of African language morphology and its contribution to broader linguistic theory and typology.
