This series examines the relationship between language, geographical space, historical development, and sociopolitical change. It explores how languages evolve over time, spread across regions, and interact with social, economic, and political forces. Students will study language variation across different communities and locations, the historical development of languages, language contact, migration, globalization, and the emergence of new linguistic forms. The course also investigates the role of language in nation-building, governance, political movements, social integration, and cultural preservation. Emphasis is placed on understanding how language both shapes and is shaped by historical events, territorial expansion, policy decisions, and sociopolitical transformations. By the end of the series, learners will appreciate the dynamic role of language in human history and societal development across space and time.
