Modeling and simulation is a fundamental area of study that involves creating simplified representations (models) of real-world systems and using them to analyze, predict, and understand system behavior under various conditions. A model can be mathematical, graphical, or computational, and it captures essential features of a system while omitting unnecessary details, making complex problems easier to study. Simulation, on the other hand, is the process of running the model over time to observe how the system behaves, often using specialized software or algorithms. This approach is widely used in fields such as engineering, science, economics, healthcare, and education to test scenarios, improve decision-making, reduce costs, and minimize risks without directly experimenting on real systems.
This lecture is part of CSC318 MODELING AND SIMULATION in the Computer Science department. The course has 15 recorded lectures across 5 series, all free to watch.
