Programming paradigms are fundamental styles or approaches to writing and organizing computer programs, each providing a different way of thinking about problem-solving and structuring code. They define how developers design, implement, and manage software systems, often influencing language features and developer mindset. Common paradigms include procedural programming, which focuses on step-by-step instructions; object-oriented programming, which organizes code into reusable objects with properties and behaviors; functional programming, which emphasizes immutability and pure functions; and declarative programming, which focuses on describing what a program should accomplish rather than how to achieve it. Understanding programming paradigms helps programmers choose the most effective techniques and tools for solving specific problems and building efficient, maintainable software systems.
