EHS 218: Engineering Graphics is designed to provide students with the fundamental principles and techniques of technical drawing and graphical communication used in engineering and related fields. The course emphasizes the development of visualization skills, accurate drafting techniques, and the interpretation of engineering drawings. Students are introduced to drawing instruments, lettering, dimensioning, scales, geometric constructions, orthographic projections, isometric drawings, sectional views, and projection theory. The course also explores the preparation and reading of engineering drawings in accordance with accepted standards and conventions. Through practical exercises and assignments, students develop the ability to represent engineering components and structures graphically, communicate design ideas effectively, and apply engineering graphics principles to real-world engineering and technological problems.
EHS 218 — Introduction to Engineering Drawing & Design is a foundational course for Environmental Health Science students that introduces the principles, tools, and techniques of engineering drawing and design as applied in environmental and public health practice. Engineering drawing is the universal language of technology and construction — a standardized method of communicating technical ideas, measurements, and specifications through drawings and diagrams. In the context of environmental health, this skill is essential for planning sanitation facilities, water supply systems, waste management infrastructure, environmental monitoring layouts, and health facility designs.
