UBEC Distributes 15,675 Learning Materials to Lagos Public Primary Schools

The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), in collaboration with the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB), has begun the distribution of 15,675 teaching and learning materials to public primary schools across Lagos State. The distribution exercise, held at the LASUBEB Multi-Purpose Hall in Maryland, Ikeja, covers schools in the state's 20 Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs). It also includes HOPE EDU instructional materials for Early Childhood Care, Development and Education (ECCDE) centres as well as Integrated Qur'anic Tsangaya Education schools. The initiative is part of UBEC's nationwide programme under the Federal Government's Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to improve access to quality basic education and enhance learning outcomes across the country. Representing the Executive Secretary of UBEC, the South-West Zonal Director, Beatrice Okei, said the programme demonstrates the commission's commitment to providing every Nigerian child with access to inclusive and quality education. She explained that the nationwide intervention includes the distribution of textbooks, exercise books, writing materials, school bags, sandals and sports equipment. According to her, the initiative is expected to encourage school enrolment, reduce the number of out-of-school children and ease the financial burden on parents. Okei also praised the Lagos State Government for its continued investment in strengthening the basic education sector. Speaking at the event, LASUBEB Executive Chairman, Hakeem Shittu, described the instructional materials as valuable resources that would improve classroom teaching, enhance learning and support teachers in delivering quality education. The Lagos State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Alli-Balogun, said the programme reflects the strong partnership between the Federal Government, UBEC and the Lagos State Government in advancing basic education. He urged education managers, school administrators and teachers to ensure the materials are properly utilised, emphasising the need for transparency, accountability and effective monitoring to guarantee that the resources reach their intended beneficiaries. The exercise concluded with the symbolic presentation of instructional materials to selected pupils, marking the official commencement of distribution to public primary schools across Lagos State.
