UBEC Distributes 15,675 Learning Materials to Lagos Public Primary Schools.

The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), in partnership with the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB), has flagged off the distribution of 15,675 teaching and learning materials to public primary schools across Lagos State's 20 Local Government Education Authorities. The event took place on Thursday at LASUBEB's Multi-Purpose Hall in Maryland, Ikeja. Also, it featured the distribution of HOPE EDU instructional materials for Early Childhood Care, Development and Education, as well as Integrated Qur'anic Tsangaya Education schools. The exercise forms part of UBEC's broader nationwide rollout of educational materials under the Federal Government's Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at improving access to quality basic education. Representing the Executive Secretary of UBEC, South-West Zonal Director Beatrice Okei said the intervention underscores the commission's commitment to ensuring every Nigerian child has access to quality, inclusive and equitable basic education. She noted that UBEC is distributing millions of instructional materials nationwide, including school bags, sandals, textbooks, exercise books, writing materials, and sports equipment to boost school enrolment, reduce the number of out-of-school children, and ease the financial strain on parents. Okei also commended the Lagos State Government for its continued investment in basic education. Executive Chairman of LASUBEB, Hakeem Shittu, described the materials as strategic investments that would strengthen classroom teaching, improve learning outcomes, and support teachers in delivering quality education. He reaffirmed the board's commitment to ensuring every child in Lagos has access to free, quality basic education through sustained investment in teaching resources. Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Alli-Balogun, described the intervention as evidence of strong collaboration between the Federal Government, UBEC and the Lagos State Government in strengthening the education sector. He urged education managers, school administrators and teachers to ensure the materials are used judiciously, stressing that transparency, accountability and proper monitoring are essential to making sure the resources reach the pupils they are meant for. He added that the intervention would enhance teaching and learning outcomes in public primary schools while supporting broader efforts to build an inclusive, globally competitive basic education system. The event closed with a symbolic presentation of instructional materials to selected pupils, marking the official start of distribution to schools across the state's 20 Local Government Education Authorities.
