NECO Releases 2026 BECE Results, Sets July 22–23 for Resit Examination
The National Examinations Council, known as NECO, has released the results of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination, also called BECE.
A total of 186,291 candidates sat for the examination. The examination covered 12 subjects, making it a large exercise involving young learners from many places.
The results bring an end to a period of waiting for candidates, parents and schools. For every student, the result is more than a group of marks. It shows how the student performed during an important stage of basic education, and it may shape the next step in that learner’s school journey.
NECO announced the release through an official statement. The statement was issued by Azeez Sani, the Council’s Acting Director of Information and Public Relations.
According to the statement, candidates came from every part of Nigeria. Students from all 36 states sat for the examination, and candidates from the Federal Capital Territory also took part.
The examination also reached beyond Nigeria. Candidates in five countries outside Nigeria sat for the 2026 BECE. This means the exercise covered every Nigerian state, the FCT and several locations abroad.
The 2026 BECE began on April 20 and ended on April 30, 2026. The examination covered 12 subjects within that period.
Those examination days carried pressure for thousands of young learners. Each paper required preparation, attention and courage. After the final examination ended on April 30, the candidates had to wait while NECO completed the process required before the results could be released.
NECO said the results were cleared for release after the 2026 BECE Award Committee Meeting. The meeting was held at the Council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.
The Award Committee Meeting was an important step in the result process. It brought the responsible officials together before the Council gave final clearance for the results to be released.
Members of NECO’s management team attended the meeting. They were joined by selected secondary school principals from different parts of Nigeria.
The presence of school principals added the voice of people who work closely with students and understand the daily activities of secondary schools. Together with NECO’s management, they took part in the committee session that cleared the 2026 BECE results.
Dr (Mrs) Folake Olatunji-David chaired the Award Committee. She is the Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education.
Olatunji-David attended the meeting as the representative of the Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa. In that role, she led the committee session while representing the minister.
She expressed satisfaction with the way the steps leading to the release of the results had been handled. Her response showed approval of the process followed before NECO made the results public.
The result announcement also contained important information about a resit examination. The Award Committee confirmed that NECO will hold a resit for Mathematics and English Studies.
The Mathematics and English Studies resit examinations will take place on July 22 and July 23, 2026. The two dates will give affected candidates another opportunity to sit for those subjects.
