The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced the release of results for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), with 186,291 candidates having sat the exam across 12 subjects.
In a statement issued by NECO's Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani, the Council said candidates sat the examination from all 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory, and five countries outside Nigeria. The exam ran from April 20 to April 30, 2026.
According to NECO, the results were cleared for release following the 2026 BECE Award Committee Meeting held at the Council's headquarters in Minna, Niger State. The meeting brought together members of NECO's management team alongside selected secondary school principals from across the country.
Chairing the committee, Dr (Mrs) Folake Olatunji-David, Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education, represented the Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, at the session. She expressed satisfaction with how the process leading to the release of results had been handled.
Alongside the results announcement, the Award Committee confirmed that a resit examination for Mathematics and English Studies will hold on July 22 and 23, 2026, giving affected candidates a further opportunity to sit those two subjects.
NECO did not specify in the statement which candidates would be eligible for the resit or the reasons prompting it.
