Foundation Announces Scholarship Plan for One Million Nigerian Students Over 10 Years

The Oma Life Rescue Foundation has announced plans to provide educational scholarships to one million Nigerian students over the next decade as part of an initiative aimed at improving access to quality education. The programme, known as the “A Million Dream Educational Scholarship Project,” is expected to begin on July 27 in Abuja. The foundation said the scheme will support 100,000 students annually between 2026 and 2036, with beneficiaries selected from Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones. According to a statement by the foundation’s Chief Executive Officer, Omanibe Ameh-Sanusi, the initiative will focus on supporting talented students whose education may be affected by financial difficulties. While students from different academic fields will be eligible, priority will be given to courses considered important for national development. These include Medicine, Nursing, Law, Engineering, Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Agriculture, Renewable Energy, Accounting, Healthcare, and other strategic areas. The foundation explained that the scholarship allocation will cover different levels of education, with 30 per cent reserved for basic education pupils, 50 per cent for senior secondary school students, and 20 per cent for tertiary institution students. It added that selection will be based largely on academic performance, while consideration will also be given to students from disadvantaged backgrounds, including those facing financial hardship and vulnerable young people with strong academic potential. The organisation stated that beneficiaries will continue receiving support throughout the 10-year period, provided they maintain satisfactory academic performance and comply with the scholarship requirements. The foundation also revealed that it is working with universities and other educational institutions across the country to provide additional support, including possible tuition assistance and other forms of aid to reduce the financial burden on students. Although the programme will require significant funding over the years, the foundation expressed confidence that partnerships with governments, private organisations, educational institutions, and individuals will help sustain the project. The organisation said the initiative is designed not only to support students financially but also to encourage young Nigerians to continue believing in the value of education as a pathway to personal growth and national development.
