Comparative Study of Global and Regional Organisations in Conflict Resolution examines the similarities and differences between international (global) organizations such as the United Nations (UN) and regional bodies like the African Union (AU), European Union (EU), and ECOWAS in their approaches to managing and resolving conflicts. It explores how these organizations operate, their structures, legal frameworks, and strategies—such as diplomacy, mediation, peacekeeping, and sanctions—while highlighting their strengths and limitations in different contexts. The topic emphasizes how global organizations provide broad legitimacy and resources, whereas regional organizations often offer faster, context-specific responses due to their proximity and understanding of local issues. Course objectives include enabling learners to understand the roles and functions of both global and regional organizations, compare their approaches to conflict resolution, evaluate their effectiveness in maintaining peace and security, and develop critical skills in analyzing international and regional mechanisms for managing conflicts.
