Theories, models, and system analysis in geography form the intellectual and methodological backbone of the discipline, guiding how geographers explain spatial phenomena and human–environment interactions. Theories provide overarching explanations of processes such as urban growth, migration, or environmental change, while models serve as simplified representations—like the central place model or gravity model—that help predict and visualize spatial patterns. System analysis introduces a holistic perspective, treating geographical phenomena as interconnected systems with inputs, processes, and outputs, allowing researchers to study feedback loops and interdependencies across physical and human environments. Together, these approaches enhance the scientific rigor of geography, enabling both abstraction for generalization and practical application in planning, resource management, and policy-making.
