Probability and Inferential Statistics are closely related concepts that form the backbone of statistical reasoning. Probability provides a mathematical framework for quantifying uncertainty, helping us estimate the likelihood of events or outcomes. Building on this, Inferential Statistics uses probability theory to make generalizations or predictions about a population based on data collected from a sample. Key techniques include hypothesis testing, confidence intervals, and regression analysis, which allow researchers to draw conclusions, test assumptions, and estimate relationships between variables. Together, probability and inferential statistics enable decision-makers to move beyond mere description of data, toward evidence-based insights and predictions that account for uncertainty.
