Wave equations, energy, and propagation form the mathematical and physical backbone of understanding how waves behave across different media. The wave equation is a fundamental differential equation that describes how disturbances evolve in space and time, capturing both longitudinal and transverse wave motion. Energy in waves is stored and transferred through oscillations, with kinetic and potential components alternating as the wave moves, ensuring conservation of energy across the system. Propagation refers to the way waves travel, influenced by the properties of the medium such as density, elasticity, or refractive index, and can involve phenomena like reflection, refraction, diffraction, and interference. Together, these principles explain how sound travels through air, how seismic waves move through Earth, and how light propagates through space, highlighting the universal laws governing oscillatory energy transfer.
