Semantic analysis and intermediate code generation are important phases in compiler design that transform a program from a parsed structure into a form ready for machine execution. Semantic analysis checks whether the program is logically correct by verifying rules such as type compatibility, proper declaration and usage of variables, and correct function calls, ensuring the program has meaningful statements beyond correct syntax. After this validation, intermediate code generation converts the program into a machine-independent representation, such as three-address code, which simplifies further processing and enables optimization and easy translation to different target machines. Together, these processes ensure that a program is both correct in meaning and efficiently translatable into executable code.
