This introductory series explores the conceptual, theoretical, and practical dimensions of federalism across diverse political systems. Students will examine the meaning and origins of federalism, the principles that distinguish it from other forms of government, and the various models through which federal arrangements are structured and sustained. By comparing federalism across different national contexts, students gain a foundational understanding of how power is divided and shared between central and regional governments, and why federal systems emerge as preferred governance structures in multiethnic and geographically diverse societies.
