Theory of Archaeology II builds upon the foundational concepts introduced in earlier archaeological theory by examining advanced theoretical perspectives and contemporary debates in the interpretation of the human past. The course explores major approaches such as post-processual archaeology, symbolic and cognitive archaeology, feminist archaeology, Marxist interpretations, and other critical frameworks that address issues of culture, identity, power, agency, and meaning. It encourages students to critically evaluate how archaeological evidence is interpreted and how social, political, and philosophical perspectives influence archaeological research. Through the study of competing theories and methodologies, students develop a deeper understanding of the complexities of archaeological explanation and the diverse ways in which the past can be understood and represented.
