5 Fundamentals of Photogrammetry 1

5 Fundamentals of Photogrammetry (series 5)

Civil Engineering 9 minutes 46 seconds Engineering Surveying and Photogrammetry II

Fundamentals of Photogrammetry refer to the principles and techniques used to obtain accurate measurements, maps, and three-dimensional information about objects and terrain from photographs, particularly aerial or satellite images. The five fundamental aspects of photogrammetry include image acquisition, image interpretation, measurement of distances and elevations, stereoscopic viewing for 3D visualization, and data processing for map production. By analyzing overlapping photographs, surveyors can determine the position, shape, size, and elevation of features on the Earth's surface without direct ground measurements. Photogrammetry is widely used in surveying, engineering, urban planning, environmental monitoring, and geographic information systems (GIS) because it provides an efficient and cost-effective method of collecting spatial data over large areas.
