Civil engineering is a broad field that consists of several specialized branches focused on different aspects of infrastructure development and maintenance. Major specializations include structural engineering, which deals with the design and analysis of buildings, bridges, and other structures; geotechnical engineering, which focuses on soil, rock, and foundation systems; transportation engineering, which plans and manages roads, railways, airports, and traffic systems; water resources engineering, which addresses water supply, irrigation, drainage, and flood control; environmental engineering, which focuses on pollution control and sustainable environmental practices; and construction engineering and management, which oversees project planning, execution, and resource management. Together, these branches enable civil engineers to design, construct, and maintain safe, efficient, and sustainable infrastructure that supports modern society and economic development.
