Commerce, enterprise, and mercantilist influence refer to the economic practices and policies that shaped trade and business activities, particularly during the early modern period. Mercantilism emphasized the accumulation of wealth through a favorable balance of trade, where nations sought to export more than they imported and control resources from colonies. This approach encouraged the growth of commerce and enterprise, as merchants and businesses expanded trade networks, established markets, and increased production for export. Governments often supported these activities through regulations, monopolies, and protective tariffs. While mercantilism stimulated economic expansion and the rise of powerful trading nations, it also contributed to colonial exploitation and global economic imbalances that influenced later economic systems.
