In Nigeria, aquaculture has roots in traditional practices where communities managed natural ponds, rivers, and floodplains to harvest fish seasonally. These early systems relied on natural productivity and were often integrated with agriculture. Traditional aquaculture was limited in scale but provided food security and cultural value.
