The term guidance itself means helping someone to find direction, while vocational relates to occupations or careers. Together, vocational guidance ensures that learners are not left to chance when making choices that affect their future. To reinforce this, vocational guidance is not limited to choosing a job, but also includes planning educational routes that lead to those jobs. For example, a learner who wishes to become a medical doctor must be guided to select science subjects at secondary school level. The scope also extends to lifelong learning, since career decisions are not made once but evolve over time. The importance of vocational guidance lies in its ability to reduce confusion, prevent wastage of talent, and promote national development. When learners are guided properly, they are more likely to pursue careers that match their strengths and contribute positively to society. For instance, vocational guidance can help reduce unemployment by directing learners towards skills that are in demand.
