Sociology of the Family is the branch of sociology that examines the family as a social institution and explores how family relationships shape individual behavior, socialization, culture, and society. The subject studies family structures, marriage, kinship systems, parenting, gender roles, inheritance, and the changing nature of family life across different societies and historical periods. It also investigates social issues affecting families, such as divorce, domestic violence, child welfare, aging, and economic challenges. Through the sociology of the family, students gain an understanding of how families contribute to social stability, identity formation, and the transmission of values and norms from one generation to another, while also adapting to social, economic, and cultural changes in contemporary society.
