Environmental epidemiology is the branch of epidemiology that studies how environmental factors affect human health. It examines the relationship between exposure to environmental hazards and the occurrence of diseases or health conditions in populations. Environmental hazards may include air pollution, contaminated water, chemicals, radiation, noise, climate change, and occupational exposures.
Exposure assessment is the process of identifying and measuring the amount, frequency, duration, and route through which people come into contact with environmental hazards such as air pollution, contaminated water, chemicals, radiation, noise, or biological agents. It helps determine how much of a harmful agent reaches a person and is essential for linking environmental exposures to health outcomes.
